About

About

When schools closed in the pandemic, hundreds of thousands of children had no device to learn on, while an estimated fourteen million unused laptops sat in drawers around the country. End Laptop Poverty was a pro bono campaign with the Department for Opportunities to join those two facts together: if one in every fourteen spare laptops were donated, every child in the UK would have what they needed to learn. The identity borrows the blue of the computer error screen, the thing so many kids were staring at instead of a lesson, with orange for urgency and hand-drawn marks to bring some warmth to the world of old tech. The ask was kept as simple as possible: find it, wipe it, donate it. The campaign ran across national digital out-of-home and social, with a site that matched donors to a local charity, and we projected the headline stat onto the Houses of Parliament to press the government to act. By the end of 2021, 1,107 laptops had reached young people who needed them.
